Apprentice Stonemason (Full Time: 39 hours per week)

Gloucester Cathedral is delighted to support the Cathedrals Workshop Fellowship in developing stonemasons to care for our national heritage.  We have secured funding to support a suitably qualified and motivated Apprentice looking to develop their skills and career whilst working for Gloucester Cathedral’s Stonemason Team.

We are looking for a passionate and committed individual who is seeking to complete their apprenticeship in the field of Heritage Masonry and Conservation. The successful applicant will undertake a structured two year traineeship in the Gloucester Cathedral Workshop as a full time member of our outstanding Stonemason Team. The minimum entry level for this position will be NVQ3 Stonemasonry or an equivalent Level 3 Diploma. 

The training will include:

  • Completion of the Cathedrals' Workshop Fellowship Foundation degree with the University of Gloucestershire
  • Assisting in carrying out both general maintenance and specific project work on the Cathedral’s masonry
  • Using a variety of dedicated stone cutting and lifting equipment
  • As part of the Stonemason team, acting as an occasional ambassador for Gloucester Cathedral and its heritage to promote the heritage craft of stonemasonry
