Music Patrons

Securing a Musical Tradition for the 21st Century

“A way to support the musical life of the Cathedral which is, in my view, an essential component of its mission and ministry. I wanted to help ensure it could continue to thrive and develop”  Music Patron

Music is the heart of Cathedral. It would be unthinkable to imagine Evensong without choristers or the sound of the famous organ ringing around the nave.

Over the last couple of years, we have enhanced our musical provisions. We launched Girl Choristers as part of the Cathedral Choir for the very first time in history, whilst doubling the size of the Junior Choir for girls and boys of any ability.

In that time, we have also worked with 12 local primary schools, each of which benefitted from dedicated singing and music making workshops, and had the opportunity to perform here in their Cathedral.

Our young musicians benefit from a musical education of the highest standard. Many go on to study music at the UK’s top universities and conservatoires, forging futures for themselves as professional musicians.

“I owe everything I now have, I do, and my future to Gloucester Cathedral Choir. And most importantly: Any girl or boy who shows potential and is willing to have a go, can do it!” Jamie Conway, Former Chorister, BA, ARCO

Our Music Patrons are crucial to ensure that achievements like these continue to be possible, and in return enjoy a range of benefits for their continued support (outlined in the leaflet below).

If you are passionate about choral music, supporting young musical talent and securing musical tradition for the 21st century, please consider supporting this valuable scheme.
