Visiting Choirs
Gloucester Cathedral welcome choirs to sing the services when the Cathedral choir are away from Gloucester. Directors of Music from prospective visiting choirs should contact the Music and Liturgy Administrator Helen Sims to discuss specific availability of dates.
The following dates are generally available:
- a Monday Evensong at any time during the year
- a weekend when the Cathedral choir is on holiday. This could be extended to include extra days during a half term holiday.
- a week (Mon-Sun) during July and August when the Cathedral Choir is away. During a Three Choirs Festival in Gloucester (2010, 2013) it is not possible to have choirs for a whole week during the last two weeks of July and the first two weeks of August.
In addition other dates often become available if the choir are away on tour or singing elsewhere in the diocese.
Visiting choirs are expected to provide their own Precentor to sing the responses (who can be someone from the choir).
Choirs are also expected to provide their own organist who should be a thoroughly competent player able to deal with difficult acoustic conditions.
