The Nave
The spacious Romanesque nave with its enormous Norman columns and zigzag arches dates from the end of the 11th century. The Early English rib vault was added during repair work in the 13th century.

The Quire
The organ still retains some of its original and decorative pipework from 1665. The wooden stalls and misericords around the edge of the quire date from 1350. The pavement and inner stalls are Victorian.

The Presbytery
The Perpendicular quire was extensively remodelled to disguise the Norman vaulting in the mid 1300s. The high altar reredos was designed by George Gilbert Scott.

The Lady Chapel
The Lady Chapel is a fine example of the Perpendicular style from the 15th century. It features stained glass by the famous Arts and Crafts designer Christopher Whall.

The Cloister
The cloister is famous for its complete circuit of exquisite early fan vaulting. Unusually situated on the north side of the cathedral, it was originally the monks' place of study and meditation.

The Lavatorium
The lavatorium in the cloisters, originally fed by a local stream, was used by the monks of the Abbey for washing at mealtimes, and is the most complete example in England.

Cloister Garth
The peaceful garden in the centre of the cloister, with a fine view of the magnificent tower and external view of the lavatorium, recently restored.
