Changes afoot for Mystery Plays
Gloucester Cathedral has announced that Sheila Mander will be the new Artistic Director for the Easter Cycle of the Gloucester Mystery Plays. There is also a change of dates for the Easter Cycle which will now run from Wednesday 3 to Friday 5 April.
Sheila Mander is well known and loved in Gloucestershire for her work as a freelance theatre director working with communities and young people. During a long career teaching drama and theatre studies, she was Associate Director at Cheltenham’s Everyman Theatre for 12 years, founded the Everyman Youth Theatre and directed award-winning productions. In 2003, Sheila was awarded an Honorary Fellowship from the University of Gloucestershire.
Last year Sheila hit the headlines when a show at the Everyman celebrating her contribution to theatre in the county was wrongly listed as a memorial concert, prompting Sheila to announce that she was alive and well.
The Easter Cycle of Mystery Plays will now be performed on three consecutive evenings in early April 2013. This is a change from the original plan of four performances: two before and two after Easter.
Sheila will be drawing on her professional experience as a theatre director to make sure the Easter Cycle of Mystery Pays are performed to the highest standard possible.
Tickets for the shows priced £12 and £10 for under 16s will be on sale soon from the Gloucester Guildhall on 01452 503050 or Gloucester Tourist Information Centre on 01452 396572.
