Fragmented Orchestra

10 December 2008 to 09 February 2009

The Fragmented Orchestra is an installation which processes sound to produce a compelling and ever-changing new instrument and composition.  The event is part of Liverpool's Capital of Culture programme.

The Cathedral is one of 24 sites chosen by artist Jane Grant, musician and physicist John Matthias, and BAFTA winning composer and sound designer Nick Ryan, to host this sonic event.  Locations as diverse as the Everton Football Club and London's Roundhouse will be connected via the intenet to form a networked cortex which will adapt, evolve and trigger site-specific sounds.

Anyone can play The Fragmented Orchestra, so come along to the Cathedral and help turn the UK into one weird and wonderful new instrument.  The unit will be placed on the great west doors where it will pick up all the sounds of our busy Cathedral - the organ, the choir, people visiting the shop, children, the vergers hoovering ...
