Greek Literature Weekend
Date:
17th June 2018
Time:
10:30
Description:
Greek Literature Weekend in Gloucester

Spend a weekend with the creators of the western literary tradition

Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 June 10.30am

Our topics will be Helen, for whose sake so many died at Troy, and Clytemnestra, whose husband survived the War but not his home-coming. We’ll follow them through several different genres, including epic poetry, tragedy, comedy, tragi-comedy and historiography. Clearly, one theme is dangerous women: other themes will include death, revenge, prophecy and myth.

No previous knowledge will be required, and all the texts will be translated into English.
